As of January 1st, 2012, civil unions for same sex couples in the state of Hawaii officially included access to the full range of state law rights and responsibilities. On December 2nd, 2013, same sex couples were officially allowed to wed under the Hawaii Marriage Equality Act, signed into law by Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie.
The Aloha State is proud to be one of 35 current U.S. states with legal same sex marriages, and Hawaii-born President Barack Obama stated that "By giving loving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry if they choose, Hawaii exemplifies the values we hold dear as a nation. I’ve always been proud to have been born in Hawaii, and today’s vote makes me even prouder."
While Hawaii has been a long-time wedding destination for millions of couples, we are happy to show the same spirit of aloha to the LGBT community. The wedding photographers and planners at Hawaii Gay Weddings have captured some truly amazing images of Maui's same sex couple weddings, and we highly recommend him if you're looking for a photographer for your upcoming destination wedding.
