Wish you were here? We hope you will once you've heard about our first Maui Photo Festival & Workshops!

The Maui Photo Festival & Workshops, slated for September 16-20, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, will blend classroom sessions, location shoots, real-world assignments, photo safaris led by our professional photographers, and event-long competitions for both amateurs and pros. In the evening, we’ll gather in the Paradise Cinema, our own outdoor big-screen theater on Kaanapali Beach, to hear the life stories of our presenting professionals, learn the most creative digital darkroom software techniques from our sponsors, and then see images of the day’s work entered into competition by festival attendees and presenters.

Of course this sort of festival could happen anywhere. That’s why we intend to have Maui be just as big a star as our presenting pros. We’ll start each day with optional golden-hour excursions that will feature some of the most beautiful landscapes and seascapes in the world — including a trip to the top of a volcano — to shoot some of the most spectacular sunrises. Afternoon sessions will extend to two hours and longer to allow for hands-on opportunities, demonstrations, and optional off-site excursions where underwater photographers will take attendees to explore Maui’s reefs, ocean-going catamarans will pick attendees up from the beach to shoot Maui from the water and the fearless will be able to hop aboard a helicopter to get a doors-off view of the islands, accompanied by former aerial combat photographers. Our goal is to have MPF attendees capturing all the best of Maui.

Our online registration system will be open this first week in February, 2009. The cost for the four-day festival is $695 but we are offering a special early-bird discount ($100 off) the rate, available through March 31, 2009. While your lodging and airfare are separate, our hosts at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa are offering a MPF room rate that is too low to publish. (E-mail us at info@mauiphotofestival.com for the room rate.) More complete information and list of our presenting pros is available at www.mauiphotofestival.com. Subscribe to our e-mail newsletter and you'll be the first to know when we add more presenters and new optional excursions.
