Where to Find a Luau in Maui
A luau is a perfect way to experience the culture and hospitality of Maui. Whether you’re a visitor or local, there are plenty of amazing places where you can enjoy a luau. Here are some of the best luaus in Maui!
Mokapu Luau
The Mokapu Luau at the Andaz in Wailea offers guests a luxurious and unique way to experience traditional Polynesian culture. The luau is hosted on the beautiful grounds of the hotel, which include breathtaking beachfront and garden views of the sunset. Guests are welcomed with mai tais, Hawaiian beers, and other island-infused cocktails while they await the start of the show. During the evening, the ceremony commences with an ʻoli chant that pays respect to Hawaii’s gods and goddesses.
Entertainment includes live music from some of Hawaii’s best musicians and vocalists, as well as energetic hula performances from award-winning halau hula (hula schools). Guests can enjoy fresh island cuisine such as poi, lomi salmon, poke, kalua pig, teriyaki beef steak, chicken long rice, and more accompanied by tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, papaya, and coconut (menu subject to change). To top off the night, an incredible fire dance performance closes out the evening in an awe-inspiring display of strength and grace. For those looking for an upscale luau experience, the Feast At Mokapu is the best you can get.
Myths of Maui Luau at The Royal Lahaina Resort
The Royal Lahaina Luau in Ka’anapali, Maui, is a family-friendly luau experience celebrating Pacific cultures and traditions. The luau at The Royal Lahaina Resort features a lavish buffet of traditional Hawaiian and local dishes, hula performances, and fire knife dancing. The atmosphere is festive and inviting, allowing guests to fully enjoy the cultural festivities. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with tropical drinks. These complimentary tropical beverages, such as Mai Tais or Blue Hawaiians, are the perfect accompaniment to an evening of entertainment under the stars.
As the sun sets over the ocean, enjoy an array of delicious island cuisine, including kalua pork, teriyaki beef stir-fry, poke bowls, lomi salmon, poi, lau lau, haupia, and more (menu subject to change). During dinner, guests will enjoy live music from local musicians and even interactive hula lessons for the adventurous. After dinner, there’s even more entertainment with a dynamic hula show featuring dancers performing skillful choreography to tell stories about Polynesian history and culture. The fire knife dance performance puts a thrilling finish on the evening, where you will witness courageous feats of daring spins and twirls set to drumbeats that sparkle like lightning across the night sky. The Royal Lahaina, Myths of Maui Luau, is truly an unforgettable experience that brings together family and friends to honor the Hawaiian islands‘ rich culture in an exciting atmosphere. This is also one of the best-priced luaus in Maui.
Feast at Lele Maui Luau
Unfortunately, this luau was in the fire zone. We hope they’re able to reestablish themselves at a new location someday. Prayers and love to their families.
Maui Nui Luau
The Maui Nui Luau is another great option for your West Maui luau experience. This luau takes place in Kaʻanapali at the Sheraton Maui. It features an all-you-can-eat buffet with all kinds of Hawaiian delicacies like poke, kalua pig, and more (Menu subject to change). You’ll also learn about Hawaiian culture through stories told by their cultural narrator and watch amazing performances by hula dancers and other entertainers throughout the night. Their fire dancing is legendary! Make sure to get there early to participate in traditional games and crafts.
Te Au Moana Luau
The Te Au Moana Luau at the Wailea Marriott is a truly unique experience that will stay with guests for years to come (we’ve attended this luau more than any other luau on Maui.) Their traditional luau combines Polynesian song and dance performances with a feast of savory island dishes. Guests will enjoy traditional Hawaiian music, dances from other Pacific Islands, as well as fire-knife dancers and hula lessons. All of the performances are handled by experienced staff who know how to make each guest feel like part of the show.
In addition to being entertained, diners will be treated to a feast of fresh island cuisine, including Kalua pig, steamed fish, poi, lomi salmon, and more. Each course is accompanied by flavorful side dishes such as macaroni salad and tropical fruit (menu subject to change.) To top it all off, there is also an array of desserts such as Haupia (coconut pudding), haupia cake, and pineapple treats. With so much great food and performance entertainment, the Te Au Moana Luau is one of the best luaus in Maui!
Grand Wailea Resort Luau
The Grand Wailea Luau is a unique and memorable experience in Hawaii. Guests at the luau can expect to be welcomed with a traditional shell lei greeting, followed by a presentation of custom-made cultural activities that include hula lessons, an entertaining Polynesian show, and a delicious buffet dinner featuring island cuisine and drinks.
The luau takes place in the evening on the beachfront at the Grand Wailea Maui Resort & Spa. Entertainment includes local music from talented performers as well as fire dancers that will blow your minds (especially for little ones.) The setting for the luau is breathtaking, with views that overlook the Pacific Ocean and lush tropical gardens from multiple vantage points around the resort grounds. Along with dinner, guests will enjoy bar service, where they can choose from traditional island cocktails or Hawaii craft beers. Additionally, there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the evening, including candid shots of traditional dance performances and interactions with friendly staff members in their native attire.
Old Lahaina Luau
If you want the most popular luau, head to Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina. This luau has been praised by locals and visitors alike for its high-quality food, traditional Hawaiian entertainment, beautiful beachfront setting, and friendly staff. Keep in mind, due to its popularity, this one books up months in advance. ALSO, keep in mind that we believe the other Maui luaus above are just as good, if not better. Don’t get us wrong, this is a wonderful experience, but because they want to be authentic to Hawaii, you miss out on a fire dance show. For us, we feel a well-rounded Polynesian experience is better because of that. At the Old Lahaina Luau, enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet full of delicious Hawaiian specialties like kalua pork as well as an exciting show featuring hula dancers and great music.
A luau in Maui is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the sights, sounds, tastes, and culture of the islands. Whether it’s at the Grand Wailea Luau or Royal Lahaina Luau, you can be sure that your night will be filled with fun memories that will last a lifetime! So if you’re ever lucky enough to visit Maui – make sure to book yourself into one of these salubrious experiences!
